The 1942 armored Stuka and tank busting G-series were fine through the war and into the post war even provided there was proper air superiority over the battlefield AND FLAK suppression by fast movers dropping cluster bombs/incendiaries. What are every-bodies thoughts on possible successors to the Stuka ? Personally, I doubt any design, new tactics implemented, or both would be a war-winner. It has been suggested that had the pure dive bomber modifications never been adopted onto the Stuka, the performance of the aircraft might have been altogether better the unit cost would be lower, the air-speed would be higher, and the range would be extended for example.
WHEN, might they be available in effective numbers produced if possible?įinally, with all these factors, what effects could the new aircraft have over the course of the war? What Stuka successors were technically within reach before, or early in the war that could deliver performance superior to the stuka? So, WHAT designs should have replaced the Stuka? Some sources suggests it first entered service around 1936, but was steadily becoming obsolete even before the war. The Junkers Ju-87 Stuka was perhaps the most iconic aircraft of the Luftwaffe blitz during the 2nd world war.
